Job summary

EXCELLENCE IN PGM's is seeking a Boilermaker to safely develop, cut, fabricate/assemble, weld and maintain metal components at a mining site in Rustenburg.

The role requires a trade qualification, Grade 12 with Maths and Physical Science, and at least 3 years of Boilermaker experience in mining. Knowledge of welding, fabrication and safety is essential.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science or NQF 4 equivalent.
  • Recognised relevant Trade Qualification (Section 13/26D).
  • 3 years Boilermaker experience in a mining environment.
  • NTC 2 (desirable) for trade theory and courses.
  • Valid Medical Certificate or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and fabricates from complex drawings.
  • Cuts, drills and punches, assembles and mechanically joins structural steel work.
  • Performs gas cutting or uses hand tools for cutting.
  • Grinds surfaces with pedestal/bench grinders.
  • Welds in multiple positions using various welding methods.
  • Performs routine maintenance on pumps, conveyors, furnaces and ducting.

Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To safely develop, cut, fabricate/assemble, weld, and maintain metal components.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science) or NQF 4 equivalent
  • Recognised relevant Trade Qualification (Section 13/26D)
  • 3 years Boilermaker experience in a mining environment
  • NTC 2 (relevant Trade Theory, specialised courses) is desirable
  • Valid Medical Certificate or be medically fir in order to obtain such a certificate
COMPETENCIES
  • Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of development
  • Identify engineering materials, their characteristics and applications and common metal tests used in engineering
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of fabrication
  • Use welding definitions and symbols
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Develops and fabricates from complex drawings.
  • Marks off basic regular engineering shapes.
  • Cuts, drills and punches, assembles and mechanically joins structural steel work.
  • Cuts materials using the oxy-fuel gas cutting process (manual cutting) or hand tools (Cold Chisel and tin snips).
  • Performs general grinding operations by means of pedestal/bench grinding machines.
  • Assembles and mechanically joins sheets, plates, tubes, pipes, and steel sections.
  • Forms and shapes sheets, plates, pipes, and structural sections using power machinery.
  • Performs heat treatment processes on engineering metals.
  • Welds workpieces with a variety of welding methods in all positions.
  • Removes metals by means of gouging processes.
  • Performs non-destructive tests on metal parts and components.
  • Tests the physical properties of engineering metals.
  • Replaces conveyor belting and components on conveyor belt installations.
  • Joins conveyor belts by means of mechanical clips.
  • Operates cranes (Gantry - limited tonnage).
  • Lifts and moves material and equipment by means of a forklift.
  • Slings load and communicate during crane operations.
  • Performs routine maintenance on: Pumps, Crushers, Conveyors, Furnaces, Ducting and Feed Systems.
  • Writes technical reports.
  • Compiles feasibility and commissioning reports.
  • Completes logbooks and check sheets.
  • Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimisation.
  • Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.
  • Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
