Job summary

MyCareerCraft is seeking a trade-tested Boilermaker for a well-established client in the heavy engineering and manufacturing sector. The candidate should have post-trade experience, a solid safety record, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Proficiency in MIG, TIG and Stick welding is essential, with readiness to work overtime or shifts as production requires. The ideal applicant will hold a Boilermaker trade certificate (Section 13 or 26D) with relevant NQF4 qualifications

Qualifications

• Trade Test Certificate: Boilermaker (Section 13 or Section 26D) issued by a registered trade test centre is essential.
• N2 or N3 (or the Occupational Certificate: Boilermaker, NQF Level 4); Grade 12 advantageous
• 3 to 6 years' post-trade experience in heavy engineering, fabrication, or an industrial environment
• Proficient in MIG, TIG and Stick welding
• Ability to work independently from technical drawings
• Sound knowledge of workshop safety, PPE requirements and housekeeping standards
• Valid medical certificate of fitness (or willingness to obtain one before starting)
• Reliable and willing to work overtime and/or shifts when production requires
• Coded welder qualification (e.g. ISO 9606-1 / ASME IX) (advantageous)
• Experience with pressure equipment (SANS 347, ASME VIII, or similar codes) (advantageous)
• Rigging or lifting-related tickets, working at heights, or confined space training (advantageous)
• Experience in mining, power generation, petrochemical or OEM environments (advantageous)
• Valid driver’s licence (Code B) and own transport (advantageous)

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, fit up, assemble and install steel structures, plate work and components
• Manufacture, maintain and repair pressure vessels, tanks, hoppers, chutes and structural steelwork
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, cutting lists and specifications
• Mark out, cut, roll, form and prepare plate and sections (oxy-fuel, plasma, press brake and plate rolls)
• Perform MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW) and Stick (SMAW) welding to specification and approved welding procedures
• Carry out rigging and lifting using overhead cranes and slings, working with dedicated riggers where applicable
• Meet quality requirements, including dimensional checks and weld inspection and NDT hold points
• Work in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), company SHEQ procedures, and safe work practices
• Mentor and guide apprentices, junior artisans and assistants
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area
