Job summary

Mukuru is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Analysis Team Lead to guide a BI, data and analytics team in building scalable data models, reports and analytics solutions. You will partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into practical data insights and actionable dashboards.

The role requires strong leadership, advanced SQL and Power BI skills, and a track record of delivering measurable business impact. Remote work options are available within South Africa.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification.
• A qualification in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance or Business Analytics, or equivalent relevant experience.
• At least six years of experience in Data Analytics or Business Intelligence.
• Experience successfully delivering BI or analytics projects that created measurable business impact.
• At least three years of experience leading BI, Data or Analytics specialists.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience adapting technical information for executive, operational, technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong dashboard development and data visualisation experience using modern BI tools such as Power BI.
• Extensive experience developing semantic models for enterprise reporting.
• Strong data-modelling expertise, including dimensional modelling.
• Advanced SQL and Excel skills.
• An advantage: experience using R or Python for data analytics.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques such as forecasting, scenario analysis, segmentation, regression, decision trees and time-series analysis.
• Experience with cloud analytics platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse or BigQuery.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including version control, automated testing, infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
• Experience in financial services, consulting, retail, technology or another high-growth environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of BI, Data and Analytics specialists.
• Establish clear expectations and support the team in delivering accurate, scalable analytics solutions.
• Remove obstacles that could affect delivery.
• Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
• Mentor team members and help strengthen Mukuru's analytics capabilities.
• Partner with stakeholders across departments to translate business challenges into reporting and analytics solutions.
• Turn business needs into practical data solutions and insights for decision-making.
• Design, develop and maintain high-performing data models and semantic reporting layers.
• Deliver dashboards and visualisations that improve data visibility and accessibility.
• Own delivery of BI projects from planning through to implementation and roadmaps.
