Placements24 is seeking a detail-oriented Automotive Underwriter to join our client’s insurance team in Kimberley. You will evaluate risks, determine premiums, and make underwriting decisions on vehicle policies, balancing risk with competitive pricing.

The role requires strong analytical abilities, knowledge of underwriting standards, and clear communication with brokers and clients. You will work with claims and actuarial teams to improve policy performance and stay ahead of regulatory changes.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in insurance underwriting, preferably automotive or P&C.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills to interpret data and financial information.
• Excellent decision-making capabilities and sound judgment.
• Thorough understanding of insurance principles, risk management and underwriting best practices.
• Proficiency in using underwriting software and relevant databases.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze applications for automotive insurance policies, assessing risks based on driver history, vehicle type, usage and location.
• Determine premiums and coverage terms for new and renewal policies per guidelines and pricing structures.
• Identify and mitigate potential risks by requesting information or recommending policy modifications.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to brokers, agents, and clients.
• Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions and regulatory changes affecting automotive insurance.
• Collaborate with claims and actuarial departments to provide insights into risk profiles and policy performance.
