Job summary

The Talent Room is looking for an experienced Diesel/Motor Mechanic to diagnose faults, service and repair diesel vehicles and heavy-duty equipment. You will work on engines, transmissions, braking and steering, using diagnostic tools and interpreting technical manuals.

Join a team focused on quality, safety, and timely repairs. Applicants should have a valid licence, a trade qualification, and 2–3 years' post-trade experience in diesel systems.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric is required.
  • Trade-tested qualification is advantageous/required depending on position.
  • Minimum 2-3 years' post-trade experience.
  • Experience on diesel-powered vehicles or heavy-duty equipment.
  • Valid driver's licence is required.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals and wiring diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults on diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Carry out servicing, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Repair and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, steering, and driveline components.
  • Perform engine overhauls and component replacements when required.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and interpret fault codes and technical information.
  • Identify faults accurately and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Complete repairs within allocated timeframes and according to workshop procedures.
  • Conduct quality-control inspections on completed work.
  • Maintain accurate job cards, inspection reports, and service records.
  • Ensure tools and diagnostic equipment are used correctly and maintained.
  • Keep a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
  • Comply with OH&S requirements and company policies.
  • Assist with breakdowns and roadside repairs when required.
  • Keep up to date with new vehicle technologies and manufacturer procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with Workshop Manager, service advisors, colleagues, and customers.

Requirements
  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Relevant Diesel Mechanic or Motor Mechanic trade qualification.
  • Trade-tested qualification will be advantageous/required depending on the position.
  • Minimum 2-3 years' relevant post-trade experience.
  • Experience working on diesel-powered vehicles or heavy-duty equipment.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with computerised diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and wiring diagrams.
