Job summary

Staff Solutions in Stutterheim is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to service and repair company vehicles, heavy machinery and plant equipment. You will work in a busy workshop with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and reliability.

You will perform routine servicing, diagnostics and repairs, record work on job cards, and ensure first-time right workmanship. Overtime and weekend duties may be required, with opportunities for on-site training and career growth.

Qualifications

• Five years' workshop experience in heavy machinery.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to read/communicate in English.
• Willingness to overtime, standby and weekends.
• Knowledge of Xhosa would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and routine servicing on vehicles, machinery and plant.
• Prepare stores requisitions and collect approved parts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Trade-tested qualification as a Diesel Mechanic would be an added advantage.
• A minimum of five years’ experience in a workshop environment, with a strong technical background and experience working on construction and agricultural machinery.
• Proven experience working on heavy-duty vehicles, machinery and mechanical equipment.
• A valid driver’s licence.
• Willingness to work according to the operational requirements of the Company, including overtime, standby duties and weekend work.
• A proactive approach to maintenance, with the ability to respond promptly and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify faults, analyse problems and implement effective solutions in a time-, cost- and quality-efficient manner.
• Ability to read, understand and communicate in English.
• Knowledge of Xhosa would be an added advantage.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform repairs and routine servicing on Company-owned vehicles, machinery and mechanical plant.
• Complete stores requisitions for the parts required for specific jobs and collect only the approved items from stores, ensuring that parts are used for their intended purpose and that unnecessary stock is not accumulated in the workshop.
• Receive job cards from the Manager, carry out the specified work and accurately record all work completed on the relevant job cards.
• Ensure that all repairs, servicing and maintenance work are completed correctly, thoroughly and to the required standard the first time.
• Take responsibility for the morale, well-being, motivation and ongoing training of subordinates.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices and uphold high safety standards within the workshop.
• Ensure that an adequate supply of personal tools is available to perform duties effectively. The Company will provide specialised tools where required.
• Perform gas and electric welding when required.
• Carry out repairs and maintenance on machinery both in the plantation and in the workshop.
• Ensure that any Company-allocated vehicle is kept clean, maintained in good condition and driven responsibly in accordance with Company standards.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the trade, equipment and machinery used by the Company.
• Comply with all applicable health and safety requirements, standards and procedures at all times.
