Job summary

Crew Life at Sea Ltd. is seeking an Automation Technician to maintain and troubleshoot vessel automation systems in Cape Town. You will work with navigation, communication, and engine control systems, ensuring reliability and proper integration with engineering teams.

The role requires a technical certification in automation, STCW, and hands-on maritime experience. You will document all work, support system upgrades, and train other crew members in best practices for automation maintenance.

Qualifications

• Must have strong knowledge of automation systems across navigation, communication, and engine control.
• 2+ years of hands-on automation technician experience in maritime settings.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced and changing environment.
• Valid seafarer's medical certificate and STCW certification are required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct regular maintenance and inspections of all automation systems on board the vessel
• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with automation systems, including hardware and software malfunctions
• Monitor and analyze system performance to identify potential problems and implement solutions
• Install, configure, and upgrade automation systems as needed
• Collaborate with the engineering department to ensure proper integration and functionality of all automation systems
• Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repairs performed on automation systems
• Train and assist other crew members in the operation and maintenance of automation systems
• Stay up-to-date with advancements in automation technology and make recommendations for system improvements

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Technical degree or certification in automation or a related field preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Automation Technician in the maritime industry
• Strong knowledge of automation systems, including navigation, communication, and engine control systems
• Familiarity with programming languages and software used in automation systems
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
