Job summary

Kendrick Recruitment seeks an Assistant Technical Manager for a luxury safari lodge in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal. This live-in role requires a practical maintenance professional to ensure smooth operations and high standards across buildings, facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities include supervising maintenance staff, coordinating with contractors, maintaining records and equipment stock, and upholding health and safety.

Qualifications

• Previous technical or maintenance experience, preferably within a luxury lodge, safari property, hotel or similar hospitality environment.
• Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry experience would be advantageous.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail.
• Good organisational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Technical Manager with the day-to-day maintenance and technical operations of the property.
• Ensure maintenance of buildings, facilities, equipment and infrastructure to a high standard.
• Conduct regular inspections and identify maintenance requirements proactively.
• Assist with preventative maintenance programmes and scheduled repairs.
• Troubleshoot and attend to electrical, plumbing, mechanical and general maintenance issues.
• Supervise and assist with maintenance staff and daily task allocation.
• Coordinate with external contractors and service providers where required.
• Ensure maintenance work is completed efficiently, safely and to the required standard.
• Assist with maintaining accurate maintenance records and reporting.
• Monitor maintenance stock, tools and equipment.
• Support compliance with health and safety requirements.
• Work closely with lodge management to ensure minimal disruption to guests and daily operations.

• Previous supervisory experience would be beneficial.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• A hands‑on approach with excellent attention to detail.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A valid driver's licence would be advantageous.
• Ability to live and work in a remote safari environment.

Salary: Dependent on experience
