Job summary

SMEC, Port Edward Eastern Cape site, seeks two Assistant Resident Engineers to supervise the Mtentu River Bridge construction, providing structural bridge expertise and support to the Resident Engineer.

Responsibilities include on-site supervision, liaison with designers and contractor, quality management, and progress reporting; candidates should hold a BSc Eng and be registered or eligible with ECSA, and have strong English.

Qualifications

• BSc Engineering / B.Eng Degree is required.
• 2–12 years of structural design and/or supervision experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer (or soon to be registered) with ECSA or equivalent.
• Must be articulate in English.

Responsibilities

• Acting as Assistant Resident Engineer on site.
• Managing technical aspects of bridge erection and geometric control.
• Liaison with designers on site queries.
• Evaluation and approval of method statements.
• Liaison with the Contractor on technical aspects.
• Managing resources for site supervision of technical aspects.
• Application of the Firm’s Quality Management System.
• Monitoring quality, production processes and related activities.
