Job description

URPOSE OF THE ROLE

To support the Store Manager in overseeing daily store operations, ensuring high levels of customer service, driving sales, maintaining stock levels, and managing staff performance. The Assistant Store Manager plays a key role in maintaining the stores standards and ensuring compliance with company policies and liquor regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in managing all store operations including opening and closing procedures

  • Support in achieving sales targets, GP margins, and profitability goals

  • Ensure excellent customer service and resolve customer queries professionally

  • Supervise and motivate store staff, ensuring proper task allocation and performance monitoring

  • Implement and maintain merchandising standards and promotional displays

  • Maintain stock accuracy through regular stock counts, loss prevention, and shrinkage control

  • Assist in inventory management, ordering, receiving, and supplier liaison

  • Enforce compliance with liquor licensing laws and ensure responsible alcohol sales

  • Maintain store cleanliness, hygiene, and general presentation

  • Manage cash handling procedures and daily banking

  • Prepare reports and provide feedback to the Store Manager on store performance

  • Ensure adherence to health and safety policies

REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 3 years retail experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role

  • Previous experience in liquor or FMCG retail is highly advantageous

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities

  • Ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

  • Matric (Grade 12) essential; retail or management qualification advantageous

  • Proficient in MS Office and POS systems
