Job summary

EdUpStairs in South Africa invites applications for an apprenticeship as a Fitter. The role focuses on producing designs per client specs, fabricating objects with identified materials and equipment, and ensuring quality and safety in operations.

The incumbent will repair and service machinery, test equipment, compile reports, and contribute to the operational plan. Training includes ongoing development of new technologies and procedures, with mentorship for junior staff.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification with no experience.
• Appropriate Trade TestCertificate (Fitter).
• A complete apprentice and proof of passing a trade test under Section 13(2)(h) of the 1981 Manpower Act.
• Certificate under Section 28 or 30 of the Act, or the repealed Section 27 provision.
• Knowledge of the OHS Act, computer literacy, time management, communication, interpersonal skills and report writing.

Responsibilities

• Produce designs according to client specification and within production capability.
• Produce objects with material and equipment according to job specification and standards.
• Quality assurance of produced objects and inspect equipment for faults.
• Repair equipment and facility defects according to standards.
• Test and repair equipment and machinery in the facility.
• Service equipment and machinery according to maintenance plan.
• Quality assure serviced equipment in the facility.
• Compile and submit reports.
• Provide inputs to the operational plan.
• Keep and maintain job records/register, supervise and mentor staff.
• Continuous development to keep up with new technologies and procedures.

• Appropriate Trade TestCertificate (Fitter).
• A complete apprentice and proof of passing a trade test in terms of the Section 13(2)(h) of 1981, of the Manpower Act, 1981 as amended
• or a certificate issued under provisions of Section 28 or 30 of the Manpower Act, 1981, as amended or issued under the provisions of the repealed Section 27 of the Act referred to.
• Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, 1993 (Act No. 85 of 1993) (OHS Act). Computer Literacy. Excellent time management, Communication (written and verbal), good interpersonal skills with colleagues and other departments and report writing skills.
