Job summary

Blacksmith Agency LLC is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to own and ship the internal automation roadmap. This builder role focuses on production systems over models rather than research and training. You will work with Python/Node.js, LangChain/LangGraph, and OpenAI/Anthropic APIs to automate workflows and connect tools across platforms.

You will collaborate with leadership to turn a documented roadmap into shipped automation, with remote work supported in Latin America and South Africa.

Qualifications

• 2+ years building production software with Python or Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with agent frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI or AutoGen.
• Proven API integration work with OpenAI or Anthropic (function calling, tool use, streaming).
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks and basic cloud deployment.
• English sufficient for async written work with a US-based team.

About The Role

Blacksmith Agency is building an AI automation layer into every part of how we work. As Applied AI Engineer at Blacksmith, you own and ship our internal automation roadmap. This is a builder role, not a research role. You will not be training models, you will be building production systems on top of them.

You work directly with engineering and delivery leadership to take a documented roadmap of automation workflows and turn them into shipped, working systems. This role is for someone who has already built things with LLMs and can show it.

What You Will Build

• Agentic workflows using LangChain, LangGraph or equivalent frameworks.
• Integrations with Anthropic and OpenAI APIs including tool use and function calling.
• Internal tools that reduce manual hours across our design and development production process.
• Automation pipelines connecting WordPress, Figma, Google Workspace and our internal CMS.
• MCP server integrations as part of our broader AI stack.

What You Bring
