Qualifications

• Valid SACAA Air Traffic Controller License is required.
• SACAA Class 3 Medical Certificate is required.
• Minimum 4 years of ATC experience at a certified airport.
• Experience with tower and approach control operations is preferred.
• Proficient in English and able to work in a safety-critical environment.

Responsibilities

• Control and direct aircraft on the ground and in the air within the assigned airspace.
• Issue clearances, instructions, and traffic advisories to pilots.
• Monitor radar displays, flight progress strips, and surveillance equipment.
• Maintain vertical and horizontal separation between aircraft.
• Communicate effectively with pilots, ATC colleagues, and airport staff.

About the Role

Our client, responsible for the management of air traffic at a key regional airport, is seeking a certified and experienced Air Traffic Controller to join their essential services team in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal . This is a highly responsible, on-site position involving the direct control of aircraft movement in the airspace surrounding the airport and on the ground. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic, preventing collisions, and providing timely information and assistance to pilots. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional situational awareness, rapid decision-making capabilities, and a calm demeanor under pressure. This role requires adherence to strict aviation regulations and operational procedures. As an Air Traffic Controller, you are a critical link in the aviation safety chain, ensuring the smooth operation of one of KwaZulu-Natal's vital transport hubs. This position requires your presence at the control tower and operations center at all times during your shifts.

Key Responsibilities

• Control and direct aircraft on the ground and in the air within the assigned airspace.

• Perform duties in accordance with established shift schedules, which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Requirements

• Valid Air Traffic Controller License issued by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).
• Current medical certificate meeting SACAA Class 3 requirements.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Air Traffic Controller at a certified airport.
• Proven experience with airport traffic control, including tower and potentially approach control operations.
• Strong knowledge of air navigation, meteorology, and aviation regulations.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with clear and concise articulation.
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive under high-pressure situations.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial reasoning abilities.Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow established protocols.
• Must be legally eligible to work in South Africa and reside in or be willing to relocate to the Richards Bay area.
• Proficiency in English is mandatory.
