Job summary

Jobgether seeks an AI Tooling Engineer in South Africa to develop and scale an internal agentic platform that unites knowledge, data, and tools in a secure, accessible environment. You will build production-ready AI agents and integrations, own the lifecycle from design to deployment, and optimize performance and costs.

You’ll collaborate with a Principal Engineer, design robust retrieval workflows, and ensure access controls while expanding company-wide AI tooling initiatives.

Qualifications

• Hands-on software engineer with practical experience delivering AI agents to production.
• Strong understanding of modern AI development frameworks and secure internal tools.
• Experience building scalable AI tooling platforms and integrations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Principal Engineer to design, develop, and deploy new platform capabilities from design to production release.
• Integrate internal systems and SaaS applications via APIs and data sources with proper access controls.
• Build AI agents and MCP servers enabling agents to interact with internal systems.
• Design and improve retrieval workflows, embeddings, prompts, and context management.
• Establish and maintain AI quality standards with evaluation datasets, benchmarks, and tests.
• Monitor cost per answer and token usage; optimize models, prompts, and workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues and iterate based on user feedback.
• Turn proofs of concept into secure, scalable cloud apps with identity controls.
• Use AI coding agents in development workflow with tests and reviews.
• Contribute to company-wide AI tooling initiatives and standards.
• Support other teams to adopt and build on the platform.
• Engage stakeholders to understand needs and communicate solutions.
