Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Data Platform Engineer (Mid-level) based in South Africa with a focus on transforming an established data and ML platform into a scalable, self-service environment. You will build deployment pipelines, IaC modules, and reusable tooling to empower engineering teams, collaborating across data engineering, backend, and infrastructure to enable reliable, scalable data services.

Qualifications

• Deployment ownership: own end-to-end deployment path and runbook.
• 2+ years professional experience in software, data, platform, DevOps or infrastructure engineering.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Proficient in Python and SQL for engineering tasks.
• Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Ability to navigate and explain an unfamiliar codebase and identify issues.
• Docker and AWS experience; familiarity with cloud concepts.
• Willingness to work across data, backend, and infrastructure disciplines.
• Comfort using AI coding assistants and critically reviewing generated code.

Responsibilities

• Improve CI/CD pipelines and automate deployments.
• Develop and extend infrastructure-as-code modules.
• Apply data governance standards for new data services and infrastructure.
• Build self-service tooling with templates for pipelines, IaC, and governance.
• Create reusable modules to simplify pipeline creation.
• Improve technical documentation, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
• Own data access workflows and access requests.
• Advance platform tooling ownership and roadmap decisions.
• Collaborate with data, backend, and infrastructure teams to improve reliability.
• Use AI tools responsibly and validate code decisions.
