Job summary

Jobgether is seeking an Engineering Manager, Automation Intelligence based in South Africa to lead an engineering team building an AI-native platform that distinguishes legitimate AI agents and automated traffic from threats. You will own the roadmap from beta through GA, ensuring high reliability and scalable detection while guiding the team in a fully remote setting.

Qualifications

Engineering Management Experience: At least three years of experience managing software engineers, ideally including senior and staff-level individuals, with a proven track record of delivering complete products through launch.
Strong Technical Foundation: At least eight years of software engineering experience before or alongside management. Ability to assess designs and pull requests, engage in architectural discussions, and make sound technical decisions.
Relevant Domain Expertise: Experience in bot detection or management, fraud and abuse prevention, web security, browser or client-side engineering, or high-volume API services.
Quality-Driven Engineering: Experience with measurement-driven processes, including test datasets, precision and recall metrics, and regression testing.
Hands-On AI Coding Experience: Regular use of AI coding agents and understanding their strengths and limitations.
Product & Cross-Functional Leadership: Ability to collaborate with product managers, researchers, and customer-facing teams.
Communication & Decision-Making: Excellent written and verbal communication, able to document decisions and rationale.
Team Building & Autonomy: Ability to develop high-performing teams and create autonomous working environments.
Preferred Bot Detection & Security Experience: Direct experience with bot detection, bot management, or security platforms.
Preferred AI Agent Knowledge: Familiarity with AI agent ecosystems and verification protocols.
Preferred Browser & Automation Expertise: Understanding of headless browsers and automation techniques.
Preferred API & Platform Experience: Experience with API-first products and OpenAPI specs.
Preferred Organizational Experience: Experience creating a new engineering team and defining ownership boundaries.
Preferred Business Environment: Background in high-growth SaaS serving enterprise customers.

Responsibilities

Own the engineering roadmap from beta through GA and standalone launch, aligning with product management on requirements and delivery sequencing.
Define and validate service reliability, performance targets, SLOs, and production-readiness criteria.
Establish a continuous detection quality framework with test datasets, automated testing, and monitoring.
Guide detection capabilities for AI agents and automation frameworks; evolve classification systems with rich context and reason codes.
Manage staged rollouts of updates using feature flags and rollback procedures; incorporate customer feedback.
Lead, coach, and develop a small team of senior engineers and manage recruitment as the team grows.
Introduce engineering standards, code review practices, and performance benchmarks across delivery speed and recoverability.
Establish cross-team collaboration and reduce dependencies for independent development and deployment.
Lead AI-native engineering with agent-first workflows and tooling oversight.
Evaluate AI-assisted development against baselines and document lessons learned.
Ensure API interfaces follow contract-first approach with OpenAPI specs and generated docs/SDKs.
Own observability and communicate progress, trade-offs, and release readiness to leadership and partners.
