About the Role

About the Role Our client, an agricultural development organization dedicated to supporting farmers in the Mahikeng, North West region, is seeking a motivated Agricultural Extension Officer. This role is pivotal in providing technical advice, training, and support to farmers to enhance crop production, improve yields, and promote sustainable farming practices. The successful candidate will work closely with the farming community, acting as a vital link between research findings and practical farm application. This hybrid role allows for flexibility in service delivery, combining on-site farm visits with remote consultations and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and advisory services to farmers on crop management, soil health, pest and disease control, and water use efficiency.
• Organize and conduct farmer training workshops and field days on relevant agricultural topics.
• Assist farmers in developing farm plans, including crop selection, input management, and financial planning.
• Monitor crop performance and identify emerging challenges faced by farmers in the region.
• Promote the adoption of improved agricultural technologies and sustainable farming practices.
• Collect data on farm activities, yields, and challenges for reporting and analysis.
• Facilitate farmer access to resources, information, and relevant government or private sector support services.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
• Stay updated on the latest agricultural research and best practices relevant to the North West region.
• Support the implementation of agricultural projects and initiatives within the community.

Requirements

• A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in agricultural extension services, advisory roles, or crop production support.
• Good knowledge of crop production systems, soil science, and integrated pest management.
• Experience in designing and delivering training programs for agricultural stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing time effectively in a hybrid work environment.
• Proficiency in relevant agricultural software and standard office applications.
• Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing smallholder and commercial farmers in the North West province.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the North West region.
• Fluency in English and Setswana is highly desirable.
