Placements24 is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager in Cape Town to lead the accounting department, ensure accurate financial reporting, and drive efficiency across processes. The role requires strategic thinking and strong IFRS/SA tax knowledge to support growth and compliance.

You will manage month-end close, budgeting, external audits, and staff development while collaborating with department heads in a retail-focused conglomerate.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CA(SA) or equivalent is mandatory.
• At least 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, with a minimum of 3 years in a management role.
• Extensive knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation.
• Proven experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle NetSuite, SAP) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
• Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
• Collaborate with department heads to develop budgets and forecasts, monitoring financial performance against these plans.
• Manage external audits and liaise with auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements within the accounting function.
• Provide financial insights and support for strategic decision-making across the organization.
