Freerecruit is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the accounting department in Cape Town. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain internal controls, and drive efficiency across all processes while aligning with IFRS and South African tax requirements.

The role requires strategic thinking, strong leadership, and extensive ERP experience to support growth objectives and provide financial insights to senior management.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CA(SA) or equivalent professional certification mandatory.
• 7+ years accounting experience with at least 3 years in a management role.
• Strong IFRS knowledge and SA tax legislation.
• Experience with ERP systems (Oracle NetSuite, SAP) and advanced Excel.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, and payroll.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and analysis.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws and regulations.
• Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and data integrity.
• Collaborate with department heads on budgets and forecasts.
• Manage external audits and liaise with auditors.
• Drive process improvements within the accounting function.

About the Role

They are actively seeking an experienced and results-driven Accounting Manager to oversee their financial operations. This is a critical leadership position responsible for managing the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and driving efficiency in all accounting processes. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of both local and international accounting standards. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
• Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
• Collaborate with department heads to develop budgets and forecasts, monitoring financial performance against these plans.
• Manage external audits and liaise with auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements within the accounting function.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Professional certification such as CA(SA) or equivalent is mandatory.
• At least 7 years of progressive experience in accounting, with a minimum of 3 years in a management role.
• Extensive knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation.
• Proven experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle NetSuite, SAP) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in the retail industry is advantageous.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Cape Town.
