Job summary

Snatch | Accounting & Finance Headhunters is seeking an Accountant for an established engineering and industrial services business in Cape Town. The role offers broad commercial accounting exposure as the team grows its markets.

You will report to the Financial Manager and work with the Financial Accountant on day-to-day financial accounting, banking, working capital and month-end processes, including invoicing, reconciliations and asset management.

Qualifications

• PA/AGA/CGMA advantageous or nearing qualification.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting/Finance.
• Completed or near-completed accounting articles advantageous.
• Experience with bank reconciliations, journals, debtors and creditors.
• Good MS Excel skills; ERP/accounting system experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly customer invoices, billing schedules and maintain debtor accounts.
• Process supplier payments, reconcile banks and manage petty cash.
• Prepare debtors and creditors age analyses and reconcile accounts.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation journals.
• Prepare accruals, provisions and month-end journals.
• Assist with month-end reporting and improve financial processes.

Role Overview

An established engineering and industrial services business is looking for an Accountant to join its finance team. With the business expanding its services offering and entering new markets, this is an opportunity to develop broad commercial accounting experience within a growing operation.

Reporting to the Financial Manager, you will work closely with the Financial Accountant across day-to-day financial accounting, banking, working capital, fixed assets and month-end processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly customer invoices, billing schedules, and maintain debtor accounts.
• Process local and foreign supplier payments, reconcile bank accounts and manage credit card and petty cash transactions.
• Prepare debtors' and creditors' age analyses, monitor outstanding balances and reconcile customer and supplier accounts.
• Maintain the fixed asset register, process depreciation journals and administer capital expenditure requests.
• Prepare accruals, provisions and month-end journals, including allocated balance sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain supporting accounting schedules, assist with month-end reporting and contribute to improvements in financial processes and controls.

Qualifications & Experience:

• PA (SA), AGA (SA) or CGMA advantageous, including candidates nearing qualification.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Completed or nearly completed accounting articles would be advantageous, particularly within an accounting practice.
• Practical experience with bank reconciliations, journals, debtors, creditors and month-end accounting would be advantageous.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with an ERP or accounting system would be advantageous.

Salary:

• R30,000–R38,000 CTC per month
