Job summary

Curro Wilgeheuwel in Roodepoort seeks to appoint a School Counsellor (full-time) to commence duties in January 2027.

Carry out counselling sessions, contribute to a holistic school counselling programme, and prepare reports and referrals within Curro's values-based education framework.

Qualifications

• Honours in Social Work or equivalent required.
• Masters in Psychology preferred.
• 5+ years experience in a similar position.
• Experience leading SBST initiatives.
• Ability to liaise with learners, parents and staff.
• Strong planning, organisational and administrative skills.
• Ability to remain calm and solve problems in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Carry out counselling sessions at individual, group or class level.
• Contribute to the school counselling programme supporting holistic learner development.
• Assist in developing an enabling school culture and empower learners.
• Intervene to help learners manage life circumstances.
• Assist learners to develop personal, social and autonomous learning skills.
• Counsell learners and their parents regarding intra- and inter-personal issues.
• Prepare reports and maintain records on learners.
• Make referrals according to established policies and procedures.
• Adopt preventive measures that empower learners.
• Provide a continuum of preventative, developmental, remedial and intervention services and facilitate referrals.

• Carrying out counselling sessions on an individual, group or class level as part of an integrated preventive and intervention service
• Contributing in an active manner to the development of the school counselling programme in support of the holistic development of each learner
• Assisting in the development and nurturing of an enabling school culture and helping learners become empowered for positive action and change
• Intervening to give learners the opportunity to manage more effectively their life circumstances and to manage their lives more effectively
• Assisting learners to develop their personal, social and autonomous learning skills
• Counselling learners and their parents with respect to intra- and inter-personal issues and behavioural problems
• Preparing reports and maintaining records on learners
• Making the necessary referrals according to established policies and procedures
• Adopting preventive measures that empower learners to avoid problems as much as possible
