A state transportation agency in Iowa is seeking a Highway Technician Senior to ensure safe construction practices. The ideal candidate will inspect projects, maintain detailed records, and liaise with stakeholders. A Bachelor Degree and a Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire are essential prerequisites. Do you love ensuring projects are built correctly? As a Construction Highway Technician Senior, you will help make roads safer through sampling, testing, and inspecting construction projects year-round. You will contribute your knowledge toward the Iowa Department of Transportation's Mission of Making Lives Better Through Transportation and the CORE values: Safety First, People Matter, Customer Focused, Servant Leadership, and Integrity Without Exception. A CDL permit is required upon hire; you must obtain Class A and endorsements/restrictions within 5 months after hire. CDL Training for Iowa DOT employees is provided; Entry Level Driver Training is available if you do not yet possess Class A and endorsements/restrictions. Location: Jefferson Resident Construction Engineer Office. Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday–Friday. Hours may vary and may include on-call 24 hours during emergencies or weather. Some overnight travel may be required.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following: 1) Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency plus four years of full-time work in highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering survey, or materials inspection/testing. 2) A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of post-high-school education in relevant fields equals one year of experience. 3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch with eighteen months of full-time work as a Highway Technician or Construction Technician. 4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch with twenty-four months of full-time work as a Highway Technician Associate.
