Job summary

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in the Bronx Zoo seeks a Zoological Park Maintainer in the Plumbing Shop. Under general supervision, you will maintain mechanical systems, including heating, cooling, plumbing distribution and controls across facilities.

You will install, repair and maintain piping, fittings, pumps and fixtures; work with PVC, CPVC, Pex and copper; and respond to emergencies. A valid driver’s license and 3 years of plumbing experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License.
• 3 years' experience in the plumbing field.
• Knowledge of Building Code and safety practices.
• Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, Pex, Pro-Press, cast iron and copper.
• Ability to solder and braze.

Responsibilities

• Performs general maintenance or specialized work with regard to plumbing and shop work.
• Repairs and maintains plumbing systems including boilers, ventilation and pumping systems.
• Install, repair and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, pumps, heating systems, heat exchangers, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial buildings.
• Display proficiency in tools used in the plumbing field.
• Keep records and prepare reports on work performed and materials used.
• Respond to snow and storm-related emergencies and work outside normal hours.
