SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, and implements a comprehensive zoning advisory, inspection, and enforcement program. Inputs and maintains computerized records, drafts correspondence, and orders remedial action of zoning violations. Interprets and enforces Zoning Regulations, City Ordinances including the Property Maintenance and Enforcement Code, and regulations related to health and safety.Conducts inspections, and participates in preliminary reviews and consultation with other City departments.Investigates and responds to complaints.Provides technical zoning assistance and consultation to various City Boards, Commissions, Departments, or special building committees. Prepares documentation required for enforcement of zoning regulations in civil court actions and criminal prosecutions, and appears in court. Manages a variety of enforcement programs as directed by, and under the supervision of, the Chief Building Official. Perform conflict resolution, de-escalation, and tactful communication with the public.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires High school diploma/GED, and 3 years of relevant experience performing inspections and other zoning related duties, interpreting municipal ordinances and state statutes. Requires ability to read plans and specifications, have intermediate knowledge of permitting & code enforcement case management software, preferably OpenGov, and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with GIS mapping tools.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATIONS: Requires CT Driver's License. CAZEO Certification is required within 3 years of hire (CT Association of Zoning Enforcement Officials). Must apply for a membership with CAZEO within 30 days of hire to initiate the certification process.

SALARY: $40.79/hr. (Increases to $44.68 @6 months, $46.94 @1 year.)
