Job description

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled mainframe systems engineer who combines deep z/VM expertise and programming knowledge. The individual must be capable of leading complex infrastructure initiatives, supporting mission-critical production environments, driving disaster recovery readiness, and serving as a trusted technical advisor for IBM Z platform operations and modernization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

z/VM Systems Administration and Engineering

• Install, configure, maintain, and support IBM z/VM operating systems and associated subsystems.
• Provide expert-level support for z/VM Control Program (CP), CMS, directory management, virtualization technologies, and supporting processors.
• Plan and execute z/VM upgrades, migrations, maintenance, and performance optimization activities.
• Analyze and resolve complex system issues and provide third-level technical support.
• Develop standards, procedures, and operational documentation for z/VM environments.

Mainframe Networking

• Design, configure, and support enterprise mainframe networking solutions.
• Administer TCP/IP and VTAM environments.
• Configure and support:
  • OSA Adapter Technologies
  • Shared Network Adapter Configurations Across LPARs
  • Enterprise Extender
  • APPN Architecture
  • IP Switching Infrastructure
• Troubleshoot complex connectivity and network performance issues.
• teams to ensure high availability and optimal utilization.

Security and Encryption

• Implement and maintain enterprise security standards across z/OS and z/VM platforms.
• Manage PKI certificate infrastructures and digital certificate deployment.
• Configure and support encryption technologies and secure communications.
• Support regulatory compliance, audit activities, and security remediation initiatives.

Processor Migrations and Consolidation Projects

• Lead and support IBM Z processor upgrades and migration initiatives.
• Perform workload analysis and capacity planning for consolidation projects.
• Execute CPU migrations for both z/OS and z/VM environments.
• Participate in infrastructure transformation and modernization efforts.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of IBM Z Systems administration and engineering experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on z/VM systems programming and administration experience.
• Strong expertise in z/OS systems programming and support.
• Extensive knowledge of IBM Z hardware architecture and supporting infrastructure.
• Experience supporting enterprise production environments with high availability requirements.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
