Job summary

Merrimack Valley YMCA in Lawrence, MA is seeking an Entry Level Youth Worker for the Lawrence Branch. This part-time role (afternoon shift) focuses on safe, engaging supervision and leadership for youth participants.

Under supervision of the AED of Youth Development, you will plan and facilitate activities for groups of 8–10 youths, assist with lesson planning, and maintain attendance records. The position requires at least 16 years old, strong communication, and a commitment to youth

Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants with close supervision.
• Independently manage and facilitate activities for groups of 8-10 youth.
• Manage groups: assisting with activity supervision, lesson planning and implementation, and keeping attendance documents.
• Support lead staff in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum.
• Create an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of youth.
• Work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments.
• Model YMCA values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
• Perform other duties as required by supervisor.

Salary Range: $15.00 - $16.00 Hourly

Job Shift: Afternoon

To represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA. The Youth Worker, under the supervision of the AED of Youth Development, provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable leadership to the members, volunteers, families and program participants. All Merrimack Valley YMCA staff will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Ensure the health, safety and well-being of participants in the program, by providing close supervision of all activities.

• Management of groups includes but is not limited to:
  • Assisting with activity supervision
  • assisting with lesson planning and implementation
  • Keeping accurate attendance documents
• Support lead staff in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum
• Create an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of youth
• Ability to work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments
• By personal example help interpret quality of YMCA Character Values - Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
• Accept and perform all other responsibilities necessary for the good of the organization as required by supervisor (remains flexible)

Qualifications
