Job summary

The NYS Office of Children and Family Services seeks Youth Support Assistants to support secure, limited secure, and residential programs across the state. Responsibilities include maintaining security, controlling access, and monitoring movement within the facility.

Role requires shift work, weekends, holidays, overtime, and completion of Basic Academy Training. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant youth-care experience; a NYS driver's license is required.

Qualifications

  • One year of full-time experience in care and programming of youth ages 6–21 or an equivalent credential.
  • Direct-care experience with youth involved in juvenile justice, institutions, camps, schools, or residential centers.
  • Completion of Basic Academy Training (two weeks) and possession of a NYS driver’s license; ability to operate a vehicle in NYS; ongoing restraint training.
  • Willingness to work in shift, weekend, holidays and mandatory overtime; successful probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain facility security.
  • Key control.
  • Perimeter inspections.
  • Vehicle and visitor checks for contraband.
  • Camera surveillance of facility.
  • Monitor movement throughout the facility.
