Job summary

The Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) is seeking Youth Support Assistants for secure, limited secure and residential programs across New York State. The role requires shift work including weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.

Training in restraint techniques is provided, with ongoing professional development and state-wide placements anticipated. Minimum qualifications include either one year of full-time youth care experience or a high school diploma, plus completion of Basic

Qualifications

  • One year of full-time youth care experience OR a high school diploma.
  • Direct-care experience with youth in juvenile justice or related settings (institution, camp, school, rec program).
  • Successful completion of the Basic Academy Training’s two-week course, a valid NYS driver’s license, ability to operate a vehicle in NY, and ongoing restraint training.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain facility security.
  • Key control.
  • Perimeter inspections.
  • Vehicle and visitor checks for contraband.
  • Camera surveillance of facility.
  • Monitor movement throughout the facility.
  • Attend mandatory restraint technique training (twice yearly, four hours each).
  • Additional duties discussed during the interview.
  • Positions exist in secure, limited secure and residential OCFS programs; vacancies throughout the state.
  • Shift, weekend, holidays, and overtime including mandatory overtime.
