Job summary

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services seeks a Youth Support Specialist to supervise court-placed youth (ages 12-20) in OCFS facilities, ensuring safety and a therapeutic environment.

You will work as part of a team, engage with families, support education and transition goals, and participate in training. The role requires readiness for shift work, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• Two years full-time direct care experience in the care and programming of youth 6-21; OR a Bachelor's degree; OR an Associate’s degree AND six months experience OR a high school graduation or equivalency diploma AND one year of experience; or a satisfactory equivalent combination.
• Direct care experience with youth involved in the juvenile justice system or in an institution, camp, school, community center, youth rehabilitation program, or residential center.
• Appropriate verifiable part-time experience accepted on a prorated basis.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license to operate a vehicle in New York State.

Responsibilities

• Supervise court-placed youth, ages 12-20, in OCFS facilities and ensure physical security and emotional safety.
• Act as part of a youth’s support team to address emotional and behavioral needs and goals.
• Engage with youth under stress and employ harm reduction while monitoring safety.
• Collaborate to improve facility well-being and assist with recreation and education activities.
• Establish professional relationships with youths’ families and assist with education/work readiness goals.
