Job summary

Seneca Family of Agencies in San Rafael, CA seeks a Youth Support Counselor to provide family-centered mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and case management for youth and families as part of Marin Wraparound.

You will join a multidisciplinary team, work a hybrid schedule with in-person visits, and support trauma-informed, culturally responsive services in community settings; a valid driver license and background clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree OR Associate degree +1 year of applicable experience OR High School Diploma/GED +2 years in related field.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and driver’s license with insurability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling and case management for enrolled youth and families.
  • Connect clients to natural supports and community resources.
  • Offer crisis intervention and other mental health services at homes, schools, and other sites.
  • Attend treatment reviews, staff meetings, and IEP meetings as needed.
  • Complete mental health notes and service tracking documentation.
  • Arrange transportation for school, therapy, and court visits.
  • Attend team meetings, trainings, and supervision; follow clinical best practices.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Participate in emergency on-call as scheduled.

Job description

The Youth Support Counselor provides family-centered mental health counseling, support, crisis intervention, and case management services for youth and their families. Youth Support Counselors are members of a multi-disciplinary team and provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive services in the community at times and locations convenient to the family.

About Marin Wraparound

The focus of Seneca Wraparound programs is to offer family-centered, individualized, culturally relevant, and strength-based support to families with complex and enduring needs. Wraparound works in close partnership with Department of Social Services, Juvenile Probation, Behavioral Health, and group homes. Wraparound provides strengths-based and outcome-oriented alternatives to group care placements for children and youth by drawing upon communityand family strengths. Treatment and support services are tailored to address behaviors and meet family needs, even as they change over time.

Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling and case management services for enrolled youth and their families.
  • Support client and family to connect to natural supports and community-based resources.
  • Provide crisis intervention and other mental health services as needed at client homes, schools, and other community locations.
  • Participate in all treatment reviews, program staff meetings, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when necessary.
  • Complete mental health notes and other paperwork, and complete service tracking documentation as indicated.
  • Assist with planning arrangements and transportation for school, therapy appointments, and court hearings as needed.
  • Attend team meetings, weekly trainings, individual and group supervisions, and adhere to clinical best practices.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Participate in providing emergency on-call response as scheduled.
Qualifications
  • Education/Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree OR
    • Associate degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable experience OR
    • High School Diploma/GED + 2 years of applicable experience may be accepted in programs that do not have a written contract requiring a Bachelor’s degree as a minimum education level.
    • Applicable experience can include paid or unpaid experience working with youth or families or working in the social services field.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements.Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies’ insurance policy.
Preferred
  • Experience working with children/youth and families with complex and enduring needs.
  • Experience implementing family-focused services.

Schedule
  • Full-time
    • Sunday - Thursday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Hybrid
    • Services are provided in-person
Benefits
  • Starting at $27.01 - $29.51 per hour
    • Actual salary is dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role.
