Job summary

South Coast Community Services seeks an Substance Abuse Counselor to support youths and families affected by substance use. You will provide individual and group counseling, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with the Child and Family Teams to coordinate care.

Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills are essential. The role requires a degree in human services or related field, a CA credential, and valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• AA or Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.
• CAADE Addiction Studies certificate or equivalent.
• 2 years experience working with youth in mental health/social service setting.
• Valid CA driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
• CPR/First Aid/ProACT certification within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an average caseload of 6-12 referred clients.
• Provide one-on-one substance abuse prevention counseling with youth weekly.
• Meet child at least once a week or per Child and Family Teams (CFT).
• Assist clients in overcoming dependencies and adjusting to life.
• Develop client treatment plans based on research, clinical experience, and histories.
• Conduct program orientation sessions for chemical dependency.
• Review and evaluate clients' progress against treatment goals.
• Provide information about addiction issues and available services or referrals.
• Guide family members to better understand and support clients.
• Attend all client CFT meetings.
