Job summary

Seneca Family of Agencies is seeking a Youth Stabilization Specialist to provide daily supervision and support for youth in a Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program. You will work on a trauma-informed, multidisciplinary team to foster a safe and nurturing environment focused on emotional and social development.

Responsibilities include treatment planning participation, crisis intervention, and coordinating transportation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in human services or related field.
  • 1 year of applicable work experience if using Associate degree.
  • 2 years of applicable work experience if using HS diploma/GED.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and routine daily care for youth in STRTP.
  • Participate in treatment planning meetings (program, CFT, education-related).
  • Implement interventions from the treatment plan supporting social and emotional health.
  • Complete client documentation including health plans and incident reports.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support.
  • Arrange transportation for school, medical, and activities; assist with court hearings.

  • Pay or shift range: $28.64 USD to $31.14 USD
    The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

As the Youth Stabilization Specialist on our team, you will invoke and instill hope in the youth we serve as you provide daily care, supervision, and support to youth residing in a Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP). Working as part of a trauma-informed multi-disciplinary team, you will utilize our core value of respect to ensure a safe, structured, and nurturing environment is created that supports each youth’s emotional, behavioral, and social development. The YSS upholds the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Title 22 and Interim Licensing Standards (ILS) for STRTPs and agency policies governing youth care, supervision, and safety.

About Monterey Compass

Seneca’s Monterey County's COMPASS Program provide short-term residential treatment for children and youth experiencing crises, ensuring timely support when it’s most needed. Upon enrollment in the program, the Seneca teams work with the youth and support networks to assess the needs and strengths of the youth in order to develop the foundation goals that will drive treatment. Comprehensive services include timely mental health assessments, crisis counseling, and linkage to long-term, sustainable support based on each client’s unique strengths and needs. The ultimate goal is to provide mental health/crisis services, suicide prevention, decrease in placement changes and reduction of unnecessary psychiatric hospitalization.

Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision of youth and work with them towards maintaining a consistent, structured, and predictable routine in a home environment.
  • Participate in client treatment planning processes including:
    • Program meetings
    • Child and family team (CFT) meetings
    • Education-related services meetings
  • Implement interventions outlined in client treatment plan supporting their social and emotional mental health wellness goals.
  • Complete client-related documentation including county health plan progress notes and incident reporting procedures.
  • Provide client crisis intervention and de-escalation support.
  • Coordinate and assist with making transportation arrangements for school, medical, social activities, therapy appointments, and court hearings.
  • Provide crisis on-call support as needed.
  • Participate in program staff meetings and additional meetings when necessary.
  • Utilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques as per Seneca's Equilibrium model training.
Qualifications
Required
  • Education/Experience Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree OR
    • Associate degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable work experience OR
    • High school diploma/GED + 2 years of applicable work experience
    • Applicable experience can include paid or unpaid experience working with youth or families, working in a mental health setting, or providing crisis support to youth.
  • Experience de-escalating crisis behaviors with youth who have experienced significant trauma in a highly structured environment utilizing behavioral and relationship-based interventions
  • Be part of a rotating emergency on-call system
  • At least 21 years of age
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies' insurance policy
Preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish skill highly preferred
  • Critical thinking to meet client needs, and cooperative problem solving to achieve a common team goal.
  • Capacity to engage and develop rapport with youth, families, and community partners from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Schedule
  • Full-time, on-site
    • Weekday: three 9-hour shifts
    • Weekend: one 12-hour shift
  • On-call: scheduled ahead of time with supervisor
    • One 24-hour on call day, 2-4 times per month
