Job summary

YMCA of Orange County seeks a part-time Youth Sports Staff member to coach youth volleyball and basketball, work with children aged 3–15, and support program operations. You will help with registration, scoring, and game officiating while promoting safety, inclusivity, and engaging experiences for families.

Responsibilities include field prep, communications, and ensuring a positive participant environment.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching youth volleyball and/or basketball.
• Able to work with children ages 3 to 15 years old.
• Excellent communication, organization, and planning skills.
• First Aid and CPR certifications required (training provided and paid for by the YMCA).
• Willing to be trained in scorekeeping and coaching across multiple sports programs.

• Inspect, prepare, and maintain sports fields and equipment to ensure safety and a welcoming environment.
• Guide participants through registration and check-in; manage program paperwork and communications.
• Officiate games and maintain scoring when assigned.
• Foster fairness, inclusion, and a positive participant experience.
• Engage with families to answer questions and share information about programs.

This position supports a variety of youth sports programs, including PreK T-Ball and Basketball, Youth Basketball, and Youth Volleyball. The ideal candidate is passionate about coaching youth, comfortable working with a variety of age groups, and willing to be trained in scorekeeping and coaching across multiple sports programs.Location: Laguna NiguelWork Schedule: This position requires availability to support youth sports programming during weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Schedule will vary based on program needs.Weekday afternoons & evenings: 2:45pm - 8:00pmWeekend shifts: 8:15am - 4:00pmPurpose and Impact:Ensure Facility Readiness:Inspect, prepare, and maintain sports fields and equipment to create a safe, organized, and enjoyable environment for all participants.Facilitate Participant Experience:Guide participants through registration and check-in, manage program paperwork, and deliver clear communication of program details.
