Job summary

United Community Center is seeking an Athletics Assistant to support K-8 youth sports programs in Milwaukee. This part-time role partners with the Athletic Coordinator to run practices, games, and events in a safe, orderly manner while upholding values of sportsmanship and teamwork.

The position emphasizes coaching, officiating, supervision of volunteers, and effective communication with families. Strong organizational skills and a passion for youth development are essential.

Qualifications

  • One year certified from a college or technical school, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills required.
  • Experience with youth programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coaching & Instruction: assist with coaching duties and sports clinics.
  • Officiating: serve as a referee during games and enforce rules.
  • Coach & Volunteer Supervision: supervise coaches/volunteers to ensure program alignment.
  • Game Management: assist with scorekeeping, clock operation, and crowd/gym management.
  • Logistics: help set up and tear down equipment for practices and games.
  • Family Liaison: communicate with families regarding safety and sportsmanship.
  • Supervision & Safety: supervise students 1st–8th, ensure safe dismissal.
  • Facility & Equipment Care: monitor gym use and sanitize equipment.
