Job summary

Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center seeks a dedicated staff member to supervise and guide neglected and delinquent youths residing at the facility. You will admit residents, enforce rules, and coordinate care under supervision to ensure safety and well-being.

The role requires annual physical restraint training and a valid Michigan driver's license, with pathways tied to education or prior youth-care experience. You will work within a team to maintain security and support for residents.

Qualifications

• Must successfully complete physical restraint training on an annual basis.
• Must possess valid Michigan driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Supervises resident peer groups and/or individual youth to ensure health, safety and security of residents and staff.
• Admits residents into the facility and orients them to rules, regulations and routines.
• Disciplines residents using prescribed procedures.
• Instructs and assists residents in personal hygiene, dress and grooming.
• Escorts residents to meals, school and other scheduled events on time.
• Maintains a safe, secure environment through the appropriate use of security systems.
• Assists in facilitating resident group meetings.
• Supervises and participates in resident's recreational activities.
• Observes residents for signs of illness or emotional disturbance and makes reports as needed.
• When directed, assists in searches for escapees/runaways and restrains residents to prevent escapes.
• Issues supplies when needed.
• Utilizes a computer or word processing machine to prepare and maintain records and reports as needed.
• Administers medicine and special care of ill residents as instructed.
• Performs relatively simple clerical duties.
• Serves meals and snacks as required.

Education

60 semester hours of college

30 semester hours of college -AND- one year experience in youth care or correctional facility

High school diploma or equivalent -AND- two years' experience in youth care or correctional facility

Starting Pay: $20.2490 Hourly ($42,118)

After 1st Year: $22.0712 Hourly ($45,908)

After 2nd Year: $22.7798 Hourly ($47,382)

After 3rd Year: $23.4635 Hourly ($48,804)

After 4th Year: $24.1678 Hourly ($50,269)

After 5th Year: $25.0163 Hourly ($52,034)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Sixty (60) semester hours of college;

-OR-

Thirty (30) semester hours of college -AND- one (1) year experience in a facility or institution that cares for youth or in a correctional facility;

-OR-

High school diploma or equivalent -AND- two (2) years' experience in a facility or institution that cares for youth or in a correctional facility.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess valid Michigan driver's license.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs a variety of tasks involved in the supervision, care and guidance of neglected and delinquent youths residing at the Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center; processes resident admissions and releases; works under the direction of a supervisor.
