Job summary

Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center is hiring for a role supervising and guiding neglected and delinquent youths residing at the facility. You will process admissions/releases and work under a supervisor's direction.

Job involves supervising groups, enforcing rules, assisting with hygiene, meals and activities, and maintaining safety through security systems. Annual restraint training and Michigan driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Must successfully complete physical restraint training on an annual basis.
• Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Supervises resident peer groups and/or individual youth to ensure health, safety and security.
• Participates in team discussions and team decisions related to client care.
• Admits residents into the facility and orients them to rules, regulations and routines.
• Disciplines residents using prescribed procedures.
• Instructs and assists residents in personal hygiene, dress and grooming.
• Escorts residents to meals, school and other scheduled events on time.
• Maintains a safe, secure environment through the appropriate use of security systems.
• Assists in facilitating resident group meetings.
• Supervises and participates in resident's recreational activities.
• Observes residents for signs of illness or emotional disturbance and makes reports as needed.
• When directed, assists in searches for escapees/runaways from the facility and physically restrains residents in order to prevent an escape.
• Issues supplies when needed.
• Utilizes a computer or word processing machine to prepare and maintain records and reports as needed.
• Administers medicine and special care of ill residents as instructed.
• Performs relatively simple clerical duties.
• Serves meals and snacks as required.

Education

60 semester hours of college

30 semester hours + 1 year experience in youth care or correctional facility

HS diploma or equivalent + 2 years' experience in youth care or correctional facility

Job description

Starting Pay: $20.2490 Hourly ($42,118)
After 1st Year: $22.0712 Hourly ($45,908)
After 2nd Year: $22.7798 Hourly ($47,382)
After 3rd Year: $23.4635 Hourly ($48,804)
After 4th Year: $24.1678 Hourly ($50,269)
After 5th Year: $25.0163 Hourly ($52,034)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Sixty (60) semester hours of college;

-OR-

Thirty (30) semester hours of college -AND- one (1) year experience in a facility or institution that cares for youth or in a correctional facility;

-OR-

High school diploma or equivalent -AND- two (2) years' experience in a facility or institution that cares for youth or in a correctional facility.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must successfully complete physical restraint training on an annual basis.

Must possess valid Michigan driver's license.
