Job summary

New Haven Youth and Family Services in Vista, CA is seeking a Teaching Assistant to help create a safe, therapeutic learning environment for at-risk youth. The role involves supervising students, counseling, crisis management, and supporting individualized treatment and education plans.

You will assist teachers, monitor progress, document behavior, and participate in staff trainings. A bachelor’s degree and experience in behavioral settings are preferred; CBEST credentialing is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Experience with youth in behavioral settings preferred.
• CBEST eligibility preferred.
• Pro‑ACT and LSCI training advantageous.
• Knowledge of Turn-Around Teacher/Counselor principles.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a therapeutic environment through supervision, positive discipline, crisis intervention, and life skills instruction.
• Observe and respond to behavioral issues while encouraging social and life skills development.
• Prepare daily program schedules and implement treatment plans.
• Provide educational support aligned with students’ IEPs.
• Support teachers by monitoring progress and preparing materials.
• Document student behavior using New Haven protocol and reports.
• Operate company vehicles safely, maintain cleanliness, and report maintenance concerns.
• Administer medications and follow medical protocols.
• Attend staff trainings and meetings to maintain required skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
