Job summary

Pascagoula Public Library, part of the Jackson-George Regional Library System, seeks a dynamic Youth Services Library Assistant to lead programs for children and teens, plan story times, and create engaging displays. You will help with book recommendations, tech help, school visits, and Summer Library Program planning.

The role focuses on youth services, collaboration with branch staff, and delivering energetic service to the community in a on-site setting.

Qualifications

• One year of public library experience or experience with children, teens, and/or young adults.
• Knowledge of contemporary and classic children's and young adult literature.
• Ability to handle cash transactions with accuracy and to place items in correct alphabetical and numerical sequences.
• Ability to follow policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of and ability to use PC in a Windows environment.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office or comparable software.
• Ability to navigate the Internet.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and willingness to perform various tasks.
• Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Staff the Youth Services desk and assist patrons of all ages.
• Assist Youth Services patrons in using resources, equipment and services.
• Maintain the Youth Services area neat and accessible through shelf reading.
• Prepare Youth Services statistical reports, forms and correspondence.
• Assist with online catalog, public access computers, and Internet resources.
• Serve as Person-in-Charge as required by duty schedule.
• Develop and present weekly programs for preschoolers and all ages within YS.
• Plan and execute the Summer Library Program and outreach to schools/daycare centers.
• Follow safety guidelines and participate in meetings and training.
