Job summary

The City of Abilene Public Library seeks a Youth Services Librarian to lead programs for children and teens from birth to 18 years, both inside the library and at outreach locations. Under supervision, you will plan age-appropriate activities, provide reader's advisory, and promote a love of reading.

You will supervise paraprofessional and volunteer staff, collaborate with technical services to maintain the children's collection, prepare reports, and travel to outreach sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited college/university.
• Two or more years of experience in children’s literature/public library context preferred.
• Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and conduct programs for children birth through 18 years, inside and outside the library.
• Provide reference and reader’s advisory guidance to children, parents, and teachers.
• Collaborate with Technical Services to maintain current children’s materials; recommend purchases and retire obsolete items.
• Prepare, maintain, and submit reports and statistics on library activities monthly.
• Supervise paraprofessional, technical, clerical, and volunteer staff.
