Job summary

The City of Abilene seeks a Librarian I – Adult Services at the North Branch to oversee programming and services for adults under supervision. The role requires initiative, tact, and strong customer service to assist patrons in person, by phone, or online.

You will plan, conduct, and evaluate adult programs, deliver presentations to groups, collaborate with other departments and agencies, and help maintain reports and collections.

Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited college/university is required.
• One year of work experience in a public library is preferred.
• Valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Outreach and programming may require outdoor work in seasonal weather.
• Experience planning and presenting to groups is expected.

Responsibilities

• Assist library patrons in person, by phone, or electronically with informational needs.
• Plan, conduct and evaluate library programs for adults, including regular and special events.
• Plan, coordinate, and conduct presentations to internal and external groups on library topics.
• Collaborate with City departments, branches, and community agencies.
• Work with Technical Services staff on collection maintenance tasks as needed.
• Compile, prepare, and maintain reports, records, and statistics; submit monthly activity reports.
