Job summary

Bloomfield Township Public Library is seeking a Librarian to serve in Youth Services, delivering engaging programs and reference services for birth through middle school and their families.

The role requires an MLS from an ALA-accredited program, experience with children, and strong interpersonal and computing skills. A collaborative, community-focused library offers growth, professional development, and a friendly team environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
• Experience working with children in a library setting.
• Strong interpersonal and public relations skills for teamwork with staff, volunteers, and users.
• Broad knowledge of youth literature and developmentally appropriate practices for young people and families.
• Commitment to high-quality public service for patrons of all ages.
• Proficiency in modern computing environments (desktop and mobile).
• Ability to plan and execute programs reflecting community interests and needs.
• Ability to lift, push, and/or pull at least 20 pounds with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver professional service to the public.
• Provide reference and readers’ advisory to patrons of all ages.
• Plan and conduct developmentally appropriate programs for youth and families.
• Plan outreach programs with elementary and middle schools and preschools.
• Participate in selection, development, and evaluation of youth resources.
• Prepare bibliographies, guides, and displays.
• Provide technology instruction and access to downloadable materials.
• Contribute to the library’s website content and eNewsletter.
• Other duties as assigned.
