Job summary

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department in North Carolina seeks a Recreation Specialist to lead youth programs including arts, crafts, games, and camps. The role involves partnering with families, supporting after-school and homeschool activities, and coordinating events at Eastway Regional Recreation Center.

The position offers daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours, with a focus on safe, engaging experiences for youth and families; driving may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience: No experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical Education, or a related field, or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience, including one of the following:
• Bachelor's degree with 6 months of prior work experience as a temporary or part-time employee with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department
• Associates, or Bachelor's degree with two (2) years of related experience
• Four (4) years of similar related experience
• Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: Yes
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

• Develop, lead, and evaluate programs and activities in a recreation center or park facility.
• Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility; registration, rentals, inquiries.
• Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
• Enforce rules and regulations; collect fees and registrations.
• Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas.
• Referee at various sports activities; timekeeper/scorekeeper/linesperson as needed.
• Supervise children in after-school, summer or other programs.
• Handles inquiries and complaints from public; may drive county vehicle as needed.
• Assist with department events and field trips; may serve as manager on duty when needed.
