Job summary

The Manassas Park Community Center seeks a Recreation Leader to support day-to-day recreation programming, including activity administration and hands-on activities for children, indoors or outdoors in varying weather.

The role emphasizes customer service and collaboration with staff, volunteers, and vendors while maintaining records and scheduling. Evening/weekend hours may be required to meet peak operation needs.

Qualifications

• Experience in parks and recreation programs/classes/courses/instruction.
• Ability to interpret and explain Parks and Recreation policies, rules, and procedures to employees.
• Ability to deal effectively with the general public, private vendors, and other employees.
• Availability to work additional hours during peak operation season that will include evenings and weekends.
• Must have demonstrated writing and speaking skills with the ability to establish and maintain appropriate working relationships.
• Ability to pass background check

Responsibilities

• Monitors and oversees the daily activities of assigned children.
• Supports children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
• Organizes and participates in recreational activities, such as games, reading to children, and teaches simple painting, drawing, handcrafts and songs.
• Keeps records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, and medication administered.
• Supervises and directs subordinate personnel.
• Trains and mentors’ staff to meet department/ licensing policy.
