Job summary

The Manassas Park Community Center seeks a Recreation Leader to support day-to-day recreation programming, including activity administration and hands-on activities for children, indoors or outdoors in varying weather.

The role emphasizes customer service and collaboration with staff, volunteers, and vendors while maintaining records and scheduling. Evening/weekend hours may be required to meet peak operation needs.

Qualifications

• Experience in parks and recreation programs/classes/courses/instruction.
• Ability to interpret and explain Parks and Recreation policies, rules, and procedures to employees.
• Ability to deal effectively with the general public, private vendors, and other employees.
• Availability to work additional hours during peak operation season that will include evenings and weekends.
• Must have demonstrated writing and speaking skills with the ability to establish and maintain appropriate working relationships.
• Ability to pass background check

General Statement of Job

The Recreation Leader will serve as general recreation programming staff responsible in administration of the day-to-day activities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may reach, climb, walk, stand, stoop, drive, balance or push to complete job task. Employees may work in an office environment or outside in various weather conditions.

All positions at the City of Manassas Park require a customer service mindset, in accordance with the Customer Service-related focus of the City.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Monitors and oversees the daily activities of assigned children.
2. Supports children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.

Minimum Education and Training

• Prior childcare and/ or recreational experience preferred.
