Job summary

City of Richmond, Virginia seeks a Protective Services Specialist for the Juvenile Detention Center. The role involves counseling, recreation, and daily living activities for detained youths; you will ensure safety and order in a secure facility and participate in program activities alongside staff.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in human services, social work, criminal justice, or related field.
• Experience working in a secure detention environment or with at‑risk youth preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be used to meet qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and enforce security procedures and department policies and rules.
• Direct and supervise daily physical education activities in a secured facility.
• Provide for residents' needs including delivery of linens and supplies.
• Maintain discipline and apply disciplinary measures including restraints as appropriate.
• Counsel residents and conduct psycho-educational groups as required.
• Coordinate shift tasks and provide support to co-workers.
