Job summary

Batavia Public Library is seeking a Youth Services Librarian to provide reference and reader's advisory to patrons, and contribute to long-range plans for programs, services, and youth collections.

The role requires MLIS from an ALA-accredited program, at least two years of experience with children and caregivers, and strong technology and communication skills. This is a full-time position in a typical library environment with diverse day/evening/weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
• At least two years of relevant experience working with children and caregivers.
• Knowledge of current library trends, methods, practices, and equipment.
• Extensive knowledge of authors, literature, and materials for youth.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work independently.
• Proficient technology skills including Windows, Office, Google Suite, Internet, and adaptable to changing technology.
• Ability to interact with the public and staff in a consistently friendly, helpful, and professional manner.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate a wide variety of assigned programs and services.
• Maintain collections, including weeding, repairs, and discards.
• Consult professional reviews, select, and/or recommend materials for youth services collections.
• Assist with collection development and analysis of collection and program statistics.
• Continue professional development by attending conferences and workshops to maintain expertise.
• Create book displays and bibliographies.
• Perform all duties in compliance with library policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
