Job summary

The Newburgh Free Library is seeking a Part Time Library Assistant for the Youth Services Department. The role involves engaging with youth birth to 17, assisting with collections, resources, programs, and services.

Reports to a Librarian I in a union position and requires evening and one Saturday per month. Ideal candidates are outgoing, creative, and team-oriented, with strong communication skills and familiarity with Canva and online tools.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Experience or familiarity with children's programming and literacy trends.
• Bilingual candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct programs including crafts, story times, book clubs, etc., as needed.
• Facilitate programs conducted by collaborators.
• Maintain records and statistics for department services and programs.
• Develop informational materials using Canva and other online tools.
• Represent the Library at events in schools and the community.
• Evaluate materials, services and programs and suggest improvements.
• Perform general reference and readers’ advisory at service desks.
• Provide general clerical support for department staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
