Job summary

Woodbury Public Library in New York is seeking a part-time Children’s Library Assistant to support services and programs for K–5 students. The role emphasizes excellent customer service and building connections with children, families, and schools.

29 hours per week with evenings and weekends required. Responsibilities include assisting with planning and leading programs, supporting Summer Reading, circulation support, and maintaining welcoming spaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with children.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfort using technology and managing multiple responsibilities in a busy public-service environment.
• Must qualify for appointment as an Orange County Civil Service Library Assistant (Children’s Services).

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, responsive customer service to children and families.
• Assist with planning, promoting, and leading children’s programs and events.
• Support Summer Reading and other high-volume library programs.
• Assist with circulation and maintain welcoming children’s spaces.
• Prepare monthly written and statistical reports.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Create engaging book displays and promotional materials.
• Develop community outreach with local schools and organizations.
• Work collaboratively with staff and work independently when needed.
