Job summary

The Santa Anita Family YMCA in Monrovia, CA is seeking a Part Time Program Assistant (Youth Programs) to support youth development through engaging activities and safe supervision. Responsibilities include planning age-appropriate classes, maintaining group ratios, fostering positive relationships with children and parents, and ensuring safety and inclusivity in all activities.

This role requires reliable teamwork, adherence to YMCA policies, and effective communication to help every child feel

Qualifications

Age 16+ and able to work; per policy for under 18 work permits.
High school diploma or equivalent; work permit required if under 18.
Experience with school-age children in groups preferred.
Strong communication skills and positive behavior management.

Responsibilities

Nurtures children through purposeful programming focused on achievement and belonging.
Supervise a group of children following program-specific ratios.
Provide positive, proactive behavior management and redirection.
Foster inclusion and ADA compliance where appropriate.
Plan and implement classes, culminating in a showcase.
Maintain safety, cleanliness, records, and equipment per YMCA standards.
Build positive relationships with parents and engage them as volunteers.
Attend meetings, trainings, and family events.
Adhere to YMCA policies and safety reporting procedures.
Demonstrate YMCA Core Values and Six Pillars of Character.
