Job summary

YMCA Southcoast in Mattapoisett, MA is seeking an Assistant Group Leader to help supervise a group of children in after-school programs under the direction of the Group Leader- After School. You will support activities, monitor safety, and foster a positive, inclusive environment.

You will model healthy habits, engage children in educational and recreational activities, communicate with families, and help maintain a clean, safe space that supports growth and development.

Qualifications

• Current knowledge of state and YMCA standards and regulations specific to early education and childcare.
• Ability to effectively interact with parents and children on a range of issues.
• Demonstrated ability to engage in a range of children’s educational, recreational, and social activities.
• Demonstrated ability to make mature judgments in difficult situations.

Responsibilities

• Participate in providing activities in accordance with established Child Care Services regulations.
• Model the Y’s healthy eating standards by consuming HEPA compliant foods and beverages during meal and snack times; and avoiding consumption of food and beverages during other program times.
• Model the Y’s active living standards by engaging in games and physical activities with youth.
• Assist in the establishment and promotion of an environment conducive to child growth physically, emotionally, socially.
• Make observations and assess information for inclusion in child evaluations.
• Communicate as required with parents and children to assure highest standards of care are being met.
• Participate in enforcing established ground rules.
• Participate in the maintenance of cleanliness and safety of the physical environment.
